Stephanie Roberts
Stephanie began her dance training in Huntsville with Wendy Gibb Graham and Barbara Ellen Smartt. In 1999 and 2000 she was awarded American Ballet
Theatre’s Coca-Cola National Training scholarship. During this time she
continued her training with the Alabama Ballet as an apprentice with the
company for two seasons, under the direction of American Ballet Theatre's
Wes Chapman and Roger Van Fleteren. She received several scholarships and
continued attending summer intensives with Joffrey Ballet, American Ballet
Theatre and Boston Ballet. In 2002 she became a Dance Major at the
University of Alabama, under the direction of Edie Barnes and Cornelius
Carter. She was honored as “Outstanding Freshman,” ABT/UA Dance Department
scholar, and was the first recipient of the Gage Bush Englund scholarship.
While dancing with the Alabama Repertory Dance Theatre at UA, she performed
lead roles in Le Corsaire Pas De Deux, Paquita, and Sleeping Beauty. She
was also selected to perform Rooms Etude (Anna Sokolow) and Varshavianka
(Isadora Duncan) which was reset on the ARDT company and performed at the
Kaye Playhouse in New York City in 2004. In 2005 her original piece, Mirage,
was the winner of Panoply Choreography Competition in the ballet category.
Recently, Stephanie completed her B.A. in Dance with a minor in Human
Development and Family Studies from the University of Alabama.
